Victoriia Dzhim, Kyiv:

Some things which I realised during last week

– Ukrainians are the most powerful people in the world. Mentally and physically.

– You always know what you are going to do when you get a weapon. “We were told we will have military exercises” is not an argument.

– Money won’t save my life, but army will, so I have to do everything I can to help our brave men. I pray for all of them to back home.

– I will deeply hate Russian for the rest of my life. I will never forgive them tears of parents who lost their children. I will never forgive them for killing peaceful people and destroying people’s houses.

– Patriotism can’t be taught with beautiful poems about Ukraine. It grows when you realise that your motherland needs to be protected.

– Media is a powerful weapon against people’s awareness.

Irina, Lutsk:

This unfair war in Ukraine attempt to take our civil rights for live in Ukraine, definitely our land. When I see in bombproof shelter people, especially children, older people –  my heart cries and hurts. But we are a strong nation, we stand and win.

Marina, Kyiv:

Probably it’s the first time when I’m glad that everyone in my family is cold-minded. That when my mom woke me up and said #Russiabombedourcity, she wasn’t crying or screaming. My dad acted as if there was nothing special. As if we couldn’t have died any second.

It brought some peace. It calmed me down. It helped me to get rid of panic I felt during the first few hours if the very first day. It helps me still.

But most of my friends don’t take it that well. I’m trying to find the right words for them, and never feel successful in it.

All I am able is to hope that they’ll be fine. But struggling with the knowledge of my own uselessness.
