The world turned upside down, the war is our reality and whether we can talk about art, literature, and cinema today.
It seems that we have been living in dystopia, all the worst had already happened. The war is coming, people die, suffer, women give birth to children in trains and basements. Our life is not real, it looks like we appeared inside one of Holywood film and the script is written on the knee, we do not know if our character will participate in the next episode.
Even now when our motherland is invaded and people who were supposed to be friends and relatives, became our enemies and came here to kill us, even now we think and talk about the art, cinema, and music.
Julia Krasii:
We don’t need to talk about fine art during the war, we must do that. Artists save the memories, artists produce materials for our cultural politics. It is an enormous mistake to forget about art in any situation.
Yaryna Travnikova:
I think we should definitely talk about art, especially when the war came into our lives. Art is life, and war is death, that is why we need to talk about life and light when there is so much death and darkness around us.
Art is culture, it is our heart and our freedom – we are fighting for this. I also think that art is a way to tell the world what is happening in Ukraine and our artists are screaming about their pain using art.
Victoriia Dzhim:
I’m not gonna lie if I say that art spreads all over the world, so it’s essential to create art during the war. People who cannot watch news will probably perceive art and these works of art will tell them all the things happening in our country. If we can do something to attract world’s attention to our situation, we should do.
Maryna Yanovska:
Do we need to talk about fine art while the war is coming?
It seems pretty obvious to me that there is no reason to stop talking about art. It’s our past, our culture, our soul (if it’s about Ukraine), and just as well it’s our legacy. Speaking, discussing and sharing is an essential part of made the art remembered and seen in the world. There was a reason for USSR and russia to destroy our architecture, pictures, writers, to repress CREATORS, so that we lose or forget things, we should be proud of.
Artem Sergeyan:
I think that talking about fine art is a completely normal thing. Like talking about anything else. If it makes you feel any better, then do it!
Dasha Dikova:
Art nowadays is not only a visual pleasure, but also a powerful tool to convey important messages. That is why, during the war, it is acceptable to talk about war as an extremely essential element of informational war. Moreover, aside from the modern examples, we should remember and talk about our cultural achievements through the history in order to break the false narratives that russia builds.
Mariia Ponomaryova, Berlin:
Do we need to talk about fine art while the war is coming?
I think this question sounds like: do we need to talk about life while the war is coming? Any art regardless of genre and style is to some extent a reflection of modernity, society or its creator. Conversations about art during the war can make us rethink lots of meanings and contexts, to find new interpretations. Especially for us, it is crucial to hear artistic voices of people who have endured the fears of war on their shoulders.
Yana Bereznyak:
I guess we should talk about art during the war. While our soldiers stand for our country, we could maintain not only the economical front, but the informational one. And art is one of its aspects. It’s one more way to say the whole world, what is going on right now. Art draws attention to us, so we should use it to help ourselves.
Marheryta Yanets, Berlin:
I believe that artists always play a significant role in society.
An artist usually reflects on their surroundings, people, and things that are around them and expresses their emotions and feelings. And just represents the world in their own way, just as they see it.
Artists can draw attention to those things, to those little details that people in daily life tend to miss.
That’s why their art and work are extremely important to society.
Because society is then able to look at the world from absolutely different points of view.
Artists now in the period of russian-ukrainian war, no doubt are vital. They fix these terrible things that happen right now on the canvas for us to remember, for themselves to reflect on, and for the next generations to see what the russian world looks like.
Halia Kunashuk:
Today, in the wartime art can increase our level of patriotism and strength. Nowadays, art has become a special language to tell about horrible events to other people. A picture can say more than words.
Another point is that art reflects our history. When we remember works of our artists and their meaning, we don’t forget who we are. This is significant to know for what we are fighting now. And for our own Victory.
Valeria Hodasevich:
I’m not gonna lie, I was not so interested in art, so I don’t know it great. But I think, that art is an essential part of every culture. Even paintings, drawings, statues can convey a story, an important event and a feeling. Thanks to art, we can shout about essential situations, we can tell what is important to us, and there will be people who will understand this cream, but there will be those who do not understand, but still support. Nowadays, we have, I guess, a new era in the art, which is associated with the war. Even in art, we shouldn’t be speechless about it. So, talk about art. It can show what everyone understands.
