We will never forget this day, our life changed for ever, the thought was stuck “how it can be possible today, how to understand invasion in our country from people who are supposed to be our relatives, how it can be when we hear the sirens at 4 o’clock in the morning and Russia is bombarding us with missiles”.

We have never known that fury can be almost physical. Today we try to perceive the reality through poetry.

Valeria Lob:

Waking up to the sound of sirens

and feeling that is something is changed.

You understand our life won`t be the same

Daria Dankova:

First day of war

You’ve woken up one winter day

You’ve woken up so early at that time

You didn’t know, you need to pray

You were so scared, also was I

When friends and parents called you in the morning six

Lisa Kyryliva:

«Hey people, do you hear?

I want to tell you just one thing

Imagine living in such hell

We are dying every minute, every day

You close your eyes and switch the news

Hello. We’re here. Still. It’s still the war

We begging you. Please help us. Please just try

Imagine some day it comes to you

How would you feel? The same as now?

We are all people. We all deserve to live

In Budapest, in London, in Ottawa

In the USA, in Congo, in Ukraine

I think we want the same freedom

Let us just live. Let us just feel the same as every person feel

Lisa Oleksiuk:

First day of war

Red poisoned smoke rush in,

Turned on our house.

When will it be possible to breathe freely?

Nadia Kobzar:

The first day of war. Father woke me up, said not to panic and pack my clothes. My heart started beating very fast, and it was hard to breath. I heard an explosion. Immediately, I realized that life will never be the same.

Anastasia K.:

First day of war,

That scared Ukrainians a lot.

But not for a long:

Everyone was inspired by resembled folk,

By our fathers, mothers, grandparents, and all,

Who suffered from these stupid subhuman creatures centuries ago.

Nobody is going to surrender, but stay for the victory deserved.

Katarina Tarasenko:

The first days of the war were very scary.

I couldn’t sleep for two days.  My heart bled.

And I do not understand those Ukrainians who would not share my feelings.

Why are you with us like this?  What grief have we brought you?

Daryna Posternak:

First day of war

Smoky halos over the churches

Scorched earth does not absorb any more flood water

Stacy Tarasenko:

first day of war

it was nothing more

then fear, blood, and death

so why do you take our breath?

Iryna Kalyta:

The first day of war

the sun is shining, but you don’t pay attention to it

people walk slowly and calmly with dogs, but constantly look around in search of a bomb shelter

birds sit in trees and sing as always, but in their voice you can hear the readiness to fly away from a rocket explosion

Anastasia Lukyanenko:

“Reality”

I opened my eyes and heard a horror in mom’s voice.

“Wake up, darling! It’s a war, but it is not our choice!”

It’s 5 in the morning, and I’m trying to realize.

My life and thousands of lives depend on bad guys.

Oryna Kozyrieva:

First day of war.

Knocking on the door.

“Wake up! It happened.”

The voice said.

Anastasia Paliy:

First day of war,

It came without a warning,

We were all sleeping, and it really woke us up,

And now we’re never falling

Asleep till bloody grisly beast’s alive.

Kateryna Krylenko:

First day of war.

I realized that I had not very much time.

Who I need to protect?

Me, my country or I should just expect?

First day of war.

Everyone had not very much time.

Everyone had realized.

That’s it, really our life.

More than 100 days of war.

We brave, invincible and soon will be pride.
